A new SURVIAC contract was awarded to Booz-Allen & Hamilton Inc. and their team of SURVICE Engineering and Battelle to continue operating SURVIAC. The contract award was made August 30, 1996. The contract extends for three years, followed by one two y ear option, taking the period of performance to August 29, 2001.
The Joint Technical Coordinating Groups on Aircraft Survivability (JTCG/AS) and for Munitions Effectiveness (JTCG/ME) will continue as Joint Service Sponsors and will monitor SURVIAC activities. Overall IAC program management responsibility remains wi th the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC), Mr. Ron Hale. Mr. Martin Lentz will continue as the Contracting Officer's Technical Representative assisted by Mr. Curtis Fett, both of Wright Laboratory. The contract will be presided over by the Defe nse Supply Center Columbus (DSCC). The PCO is Ms. Cheryl Montoney of DSCC, assisted by Contract Specialist Ms. Jane Botchie. The Director of SURVIAC, Mr. Kevin Crosthwaite, the Booz-Allen OIC, Mr. Don Vincent along with the entire SURVIAC Core and Tech nical Area Task crew want to express their thanks to the community for the support we have received. We now look forward to advancing on the future in this vital area of nonnuclear survivability/vulnerability into the next century. Operations will contin ue from the current SURVIAC core at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as well as the satellite offices in Washington, DC and Aberdeen, Maryland.
This first liaison training program began with the SURVIAC Survivability Workshop (10- 14 June 1996) and continued through the following week. Three of these days were spent investigating SURVIAC databases and libraries, performing searches, reviewing products, models, and technical area task procedures, becoming familiar with key survivability lethality agencies and the day-to-day operations of the SURVIAC office. A very informative briefing on how the IACs and DTIC interrelate was presented by the DTIC IAC Program Office. The last day was spent discussing the needs of each liaison and how a more effective relationship with their organization might be established through this program.
At the conclusion of this program, an evaluation was solicited from each attendee. The overall comment was on the actual realization of the vast amount of available information, that previous to this program, the attendees did not know existed. Anot her unanimous comment was that the liaison program should be continued.
This training program will again be offered in the upcoming months. If you would be interested in becoming your organization's SURVIAC liaison, please contact Donna Egner at (937) 255-4840, DSN 785-4840 or by email at egner_donna@bah.com.
Linda Hamilton, Booz-Allen & Hamilton Inc., the SURVIAC BEARD meeting hostess, opened the meeting by introducing the model managers. The BLUEMAX model manager is Mr. Stephen Ames, Aeronautical Systems Comman d (ASC/XRE) and the Advanced Low Altitude Radar Model (ALARM) model manager is Mr. Rob Ehret of Wright Laboratories (WL/AASE-1) both at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The Enhanced Surface-To-Air Missile Simulation (ESAMS) model manager is Major Greg "Gumby" Nowell of the Air Force Studies and Analyses Activity (AFSAA/SAG) at the Pentagon. Mr. Dwight FitzSimons is the Radar Directed Gun Simulation (RADGUNS) model manager from the N ational Ground Intelligence Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Digital Integrated Modeling Environment (DIME) model manager is Mr. Bob Meyer of the Naval Air Weapons Center, China Lake, California. Each model manager conducted a separate model us er meeting as well as participated in the common sessions.
Prior to the individual user group meetings on May 1, the model managers presented the intentions of the DIME, ESAMS, ALARM, and RADGUNS (DEAR) alliance. DEAR proposed to integrate efforts and standardize models in areas of commonality. Common areas will be standardized, improved, and shared. One lead agency for each common area of modeling will be chosen, however, each model will retain it's own identity and purpose. J-MASS standards will be chosen where applicable. DEAR wants to avoid duplication and reduce costs of development. DEAR proposes to adapt a common coordinate system for the signature inputs and the environment modeled by each model. DEAR also wants to reduce the amount of "grunt work" that is currently performed by DIME. The DEAR alliance is in a preliminary stage and will continue to keep the users informed.
Unclassified briefing charts and minutes from the BEARD meeting can be obtained by contacting the SURVIAC, Ms. Geri Bowling at (937) 255-4840 or DSN 785-4840. Classified briefings must be obtained from the presenters .
The next BEARD meeting will be held on April 29 through May 2, 1997 at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Announcements will be mailed as details become finalized.

If you're in Dayton, stop in at the Wright-Patterson office and say "Hi" to Michael Shanley. Michael hails from Avoca, New York and is the most recent addition to SURVIAC's Computer Services Team. He has been working here for the last 18 months while he also attends the University of Dayton (UD). Michael's ability to learn quickly and his excellent attitude have allowed him to make many significant contributions to SURVIAC including the maintenance and expansion of much of the SURVIAC Web Server (http://surviac.flight.wpafb.af.mil).
At UD, Michael is a senior in the Management Information Systems (MIS) program from which he hopes to graduate next August. As a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Michael's computer skills are put to good use as he is the fraternity's webmaster. Michael is also an avid baseball and basketball fan (Go UD Flyers!).
Feel free to send Michael an email message at: shanley_michael@bah.com.

The recently formed Information Assurance Technology Analysis Center (IATAC) became accessible via the Internet with the activation of the IATAC home page on October 15th. IATAC is a U.S. Department of Defense Information Analysis Center (IAC) sponsored by the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC). The Information Assurance Technology Analysis Center (IATAC) Team is sponsored under the direction of the Defense Technic al Information Center (DTIC) and the integrated sponsorship of the Office of The Director, Defense Research and Engineering (ODDR&E), Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Command, Control and Communications) (ASD/C3I), The Joint Staff, National Security Agency (NSA), and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). IATAC is operated by Booz-Allen & Hamilton Inc., IIT Research Institute, and Kaman Sciences Corporation. IATAC's mission is to provide the Department of De fense a central point of access for information on emerging technologies in system vulnerabilities, research and development, models and analysis to support the development and implementation of effective defense against information warfare attacks.
Information contained on the evolving site includes news and publications, products and services, answers to frequently asked questions, and calendar of events information.
Future plans include online access to appropriate material using the common Portable Document Format (PDF) developed by Adobe Systems Additional information in IATAC can be obtained by visiting the IATAC site, or calling IATAC at (703) 329-7337.
Additionally, users can query IATAC via an online form. An e-mail address for IATAC, as well as links to sponsoring agencies, and the IAC hub page are also available.
