Challenges facing our sea services include rising naval powers, decreasing allied naval forces and future budget pressures. A key to maintaining our stature as the greatest naval power in the world is the ability to execute the Department of the Navy’s thirty-year shipbuilding plan and the USCG modernization plans. Naval engineers must rise to the occasion to ensure these plans are executable within the budgetary constraints by applying best engineering practices and smart technology adoption to meet required capabilities within defined budgets. Identifying and resolving these critical engineering challenges will ensure a robust and capable Navy, Marine Corps and USCG.
